Tradition Markets Largest Agriculture Methane Carbon Offset Basket in California

Tradition, a leading interdealer broker and a subsidiary of Compagnie Financiere Tradition, announced today it has been awarded the exclusive mandate to market the largest agricultural methane carbon offset basket in California to date. The project was originated by L2i Financial Solutions Consultant (L2i), a non-traditional corporate financing firm. The basket consists of 28 Dairy Methane projects in the San Joaquin Valley that were successfully validated through the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), of which a portion has already been allocated to buyers.
The project activity consists of technologies and measures that reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions using sustainable manure management practices as well as technologies and measures that avoid or reduce methane production from anaerobic manure management systems, through removal of solids from the manure slurry stream. The project uses a methodology approved under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). L2i originated the dairy methane carbon offsets with an aggregated group of family-operated dairy farms in the valley. These developments come at a critical time for the California carbon market, as the Air Resource Board releases its preliminary draft of the AB32 Scoping plan for the statewide cap and trade program.
